My provider card is due for renewal in December 2026. Should I take the current course or wait for the redesigned course?

If your provider card is due for renewal in December 2026, you may either complete the current renewal course or wait to purchase and complete the redesigned course scheduled to launch on December 15, 2026.

To support learners during the transition period, ONS will waive the late renewal fee for customers from December 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027.

Important: The late-fee waiver does not extend your provider card expiration date. If you do not complete the renewal course before your provider card expires, your provider card status will change to “lapsed” until you successfully complete your renewal course.

If your provider card is within the 30-day grace period following expiration, you may still purchase and complete the renewal course and renew your provider card without paying a late renewal fee during the transition period.

Before deciding to wait for the redesigned course, please check your institution’s requirements regarding provider card status to make sure it will not affect your ability to perform your job responsibilities.
